May 18, 2023 (San Diego, CA) - Nautilus Book Awards 2023 is third honor for Paddy Ladd's "Seeing Through New Eyes, Deaf Culture and Deaf Pedagogies: The Unrecognized Curriculum."
The Nautilus Book Awards announced their 2023 contest winners, and Paddy Ladd's "Seeing Through New Eyes, Deaf Culture and Deaf Pedagogies: The Unrecognized Curriculum," was named a Silver Winner in the category of Social Sciences & Education.
The Nautilus Book Awards recognizes books that promote positive social change, and provide transformative insights into the human experience. This year's winners were selected from over 600 entries.
In addition to winning the Nautilus Book Award, "Seeing Through New Eyes, Deaf Culture and Deaf Pedagogies: The Unrecognized Curriculum" has also won the Bronze in the 2023 Feathered Quill Book Awards Program, and was a finalist for the Book Excellence Award.
Paddy Ladd is an internationally renowned Deaf scholar and activist, and the author of several other books on Deaf culture and history. "I am honored to receive these awards," said Ladd. "My hope is that this book will help to raise awareness about the Deaf community and its unique culture, and inspire readers to become better allies and advocates for Deaf rights and inclusion."
Deaf educators have largely been excluded from Deaf education, at great cost to Deaf people. For the first time in 260 years, an entire book recognizes the contributions of these educators.
This ground-breaking first volume in a planned series looks at the "unrecognized curriculum" offered over the years by Deaf educators who knew "the Deaf way."
Universities are adopting the book for their Deaf Education or Deaf Culture classes. If interested in adopting this book for classroom use, please contact Jedd@dawnsign.com.
