CURRICULUM
Explore the rich literary traditions of the Deaf community — from poetry and narratives to the stories of those who shaped Deaf culture.
About These Curriculums
The American Sign Language Literature Series, by Sam Supalla and Ben Bahan, centers on two classic ASL narratives — Bird of a Different Feather and For a Decent Living. Students study the stories for comprehension, literary analysis, and their linguistic and cultural significance, then build expressive skills by retelling them.
Movers & Shakers: Deaf People Who Changed the World, by Susan M. Mather & Cathryn Carroll, is a bilingual workbook of twenty-one exercises highlighting Deaf individuals — some culturally Deaf, some not — who changed the society around them and the world we live in today. It's a rich tool for Deaf Studies, Bilingualism, and Language Arts.
